Discover a unique blend of history and nature in Plumas-Eureka State Park with a tour of Jamison Mine Tour and hike to Grass Lake on Sat., Aug 26.
This event, hosted in collaboration with Friends of Plumas Wilderness and Plumas-Eureka State Park, is an educational and immersive experience that will unveil the rich cultural and natural history nestled within the park’s scenic beauty.
Led by Park Interpreter Darcy Page, participants will meet at 10 a.m. at the Jamison Day Use Area to embark on a journey through the Jamison Mine complex. They can also continue the trail up to beautiful Grass Lake. This adventure is a 2.5-mile round trip moderate hike, offering both history enthusiasts and nature lovers a chance to explore our beloved local Plumas-Eureka State Park.
The Jamison Mine Complex will reveal the history and the relics of the Jamison Mine as you explore its remnants and equipment, providing a unique glimpse into the area’s mining heritage.
The hike to Grass Lake is along a trail with some steep and rocky sections through the transition from State Park lands to U. S. Forest Service lands. As you journey on towards Grass Lake, gain insights into local forest ecology and the natural history of this dynamic section of the Sierra Nevada from our guide.
To ensure a comfortable and safe experience, participants are requested to bring water to stay hydrated; sunscreen; sturdy hiking shoes; and a field guide or camera to capture the memories.
