The California Department of Fish and Wildlife reports that Saturday, Sept. 2, is the second free fishing day for 2023. (The first was held July 1.) On these days, anglers are not required to possess a fishing license.
The department points out that free fishing days offer licensed California anglers a chance to introduce someone new to fishing at no cost. They also offer an opportunity for those new to the sport of fishing to try it out.
CDFW reminds anglers that all other fishing regulations, such as bag and size limits, gear restrictions, report card requirements, fishing hours, and stream closures remain in effect during free fishing days.
