Plumas Health Care Foundation announces that the 2023 Sierra Nevada Conservation and Wilderness Medicine Conference will be held Sept. 8 – 10 at a new venue: the UC Berkeley Forestry Camp in Meadow Valley.
This year’s theme is Water: Adapting Healthcare to a Changing Climate. This educational event is fiscally sponsored by the Plumas Health Care Foundation with facilitation support from Plumas District Hospital. A total of 10 continuing education units are available for medical professionals.
Speakers will be presenting on a variety of topics, and the conference features a wide array of core wilderness medicine workshops and hands-on skill stations, including wound care in backcountry settings, how to build a first aid kit, kids and pregnant women in the wilderness, point-of-care ultrasound, and many more.
This year’s keynote speaker, Dr. Ken Zafren, associate director of the Himalayan Rescue Association, will be presenting on his decades of experience as a wilderness and global health physician.
Registration includes meals and bunkhouse-style lodging. Space is limited; those interested may register online at https://www.pdh.org/events/WildernessConference/register.
