Grave Occasion offers haunted history

The Plumas County Museum Association announces its 12th annual Grave Occasion Cemetery Tour and Dinner. Guests are invited to gather at Beckwourth’s historic Whispering Pines Cemetery Saturday, Sept. 16 for this history-filled fundraising event.

The afternoon begins at 3:30 p.m. with a “spirit-filled tour” of the pioneer cemetery. “Here you will be greeted by earthly apparitions of some of Beckwourth’s and Sierra Valley’s notable personalities sharing their life stories and a few fascinating tidbits of local history,” said Paul M. Russell, assistant director of the Plumas County Museum.

After the historical reenactments at the cemetery, the event will move to the Sierra Valley Grange Hall in Vinton for a four-course catered dinner and silent auction from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Prior to the main event at the cemetery, guests are invited to stop by the Jim Beckwourth Museum in Portola for pre-event tours and “tantalizing haunted history.”
