Play Day Sept. 6
The Graeagle Men’s Golf Association held a Play Day Sept. 6. There were 17 players in three-man teams, and the format was one best ball on par 4s, two best balls on par 3s and par 5s. Par in this format is 104.
First place was won by the team of Mark Yuill, Jeff Monaghan, and Dave Macdonald with a net score of 93. In second place was the team of Lance Raglen, John Grasso, and Jay Hendrick with a net score of 94.
There were six skins awarded, one each to Don Judson with a net 2 on Hole 2, Jay Hendrick with a net 2 on 6, Jim Reynolds with a net 1 on 8, Dan Friedman with a net 4 on 11, Grant Mayfield with a net 2 on 13, and John Grasso with a net 3 on 14.
Women’s Club Championship
The Graeagle Meadows Women’s Golf Club held its two-round 2023 Club Championship tournament on Sept. 7 and 14. The 2023 club champion is Michele Violett, who scored a two-round gross score of 168; runner-up is Cindy Hannah with 177. Flight A’s net score winner was Dottie Hattich, with a net 142. Flight B winners included: low gross, Chris Spencer (225); first low net, Mikie Burdick (155); and second low net, Cathy Macdonald (157).
There were chip-ins and birdies galore: one chip-in each for Cynthia Baldwin, Mikie Burdick, Cindy Hannah, and Dottie Hattich. And Cindy Hannah had three birdies, plus two each for Dottie Hattich and Michelle Violet, and one for Cynthia Baldwin.
Friday Play Day
On Sept. 8 there were 16 players signed up for the Friday Play Day and the game was individual low net plus skins. In first place was Dave Macdonald with a net score of 69. Second place was won by Dan Freidman with a net score of 70. Third place was a tie between Mike Irving and Steve Peterson with net scores of 72.
There were five skins awarded: two to Nate Coats, and one each to Grant Mayfield and Mike Irving.
Match Play Championship
After months of head-to-head competition in the Match Play Championship among 24 players, Mike Irving prevailed over Mario Garibotti 2 and 1 in the first flight, and Steve Harding prevailed over Dennis Flynn in the second flight.
Play Day Sept. 13
On Sept. 13, 19 players competed in a game of individual low net plus skins. First place went to Steve Peterson with a net 66, second place went to Mark Yuill with a net 68, third place went to Jay Hendrick with a net 71, and fourth place went to Jim Reynolds with a net 72.
There were six skins awarded: Mark Yuill with a net 2 on 4, Ken Hattich with a net 2 on 6, Steve Peterson with a net 2 on 9, Jay Hendrick with a net 2 on 13 and a net 2 on 15, and Steve Peterson with a net 3 on 17.
Club Championship Tournament
The Graeagle Men’s Golf Association conducted its annual Club Championship Tournament Friday, Sept. 15, and Sunday, Sept. 17. The field was divided into three divisions: a championship flight, which was competed at gross scores from the white tees; a senior flight, which was played at net scores from the white tees; and a super senior flight, which was a net event played from the forward combo tees.
The winner of the club championship was Dr. Mario Garibotti with a two-day gross score of 148. The winner of the senior flight was Mark Yuill with a net score of 149; second was Bill Harrison with a net score of 150; third was Lance Raglen with a net score of 152. In the super senior flight, the winner was Grant Mayfield with a net score of 146; second was a tie between Dave Dierking and Dave Macdonald with net scores of 148; fourth place was won by Bob Laxaque with a net score of 149.
