Quincy Firewise members welcome guest speaker Greg Kinne to their monthly community meeting Wednesday, Sept. 27. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. at the West End Theatre at 541 Main St. (enter through Quintopia). Quincy Firewise invites all Quincy residents, including those from surrounding areas, as well as residents of other Firewise Communities, to attend.
Kinne is a retired contractor and artist who works as a volunteer for Quincy Firewise and the Plumas Underburn Cooperative. He is a certified wildfire mitigation specialist, certified by the National Fire Protection Association. Quincy Firewise reports that Kinne will be discussing home hardening, proper fuel thinning, and the importance of having nothing combustible in the five feet directly around a house. Kinne will also share information about completed, current, and future projects regarding local residential maintenance and thinning programs.
This monthly event also includes a pine needle rake giveaway.
Quincy Firewise is a local volunteer group working to create a more fire-aware and fire-prepared community. Members meet on the last Wednesday of every month. In addition to monthly guest speakers, the group provides up-to-date information on home/property insurance, evacuation preparedness, home hardening tips, and home ignition zone design.
