George Michael DaForno

Nov. 8, 1949 – Sept. 21, 2023

On Sept. 21, 2023, at 7:33 p.m., at the young age of 73, our beloved George Michael DaForno left this world, in peace, to join our Heavenly Father. George was born on Nov. 8, 1949, to George Mario DaForno and Mary Jane Swindlehurst in Reno, Nevada.

George was baptized into the Catholic religion, which he followed throughout his life. On Sept. 4, 1968, during the Vietnam War, George enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country until Aug. 24, 1970, when he was released with an honorable discharge.

Throughout his life, George enjoyed hunting, fishing and mostly just being outdoors under the big blue sky. He always enjoyed the companionship of a dog right by his side or right next to him in his truck. George worked in the trades as a carpenter throughout his life. He had many childhood friends that he continued a relationship with until the day he passed.

In 1968, George married Kathy Swain (Burke) of Reno, Nevada. He was blessed with two sons, Geoffrey Michael DaForno and George Matthew DaForno. On Oct. 1, 1983, George married Nancy Britton (DaForno), and they began a journey of nearly 40 years of marriage.

In 1987, they moved to Beckwourth, California, where he built their home and then, shortly thereafter, became a general contractor in the state of California. He was well known throughout the community as an excellent builder and showed a great deal of pride in his work. He retired in 2012 and continued to enjoy his home in Beckwourth.

Those left to cherish his memory include his spouse of nearly 40 years, Nancy DaForno; his sons, Geoffrey (Tanya) DaForno and George (Michelle) DaForno; his granddaughter Mackenzie Taylor; his grandsons, Mason DaForno, Logan DaForno, and George (Luke) DaForno; his sisters, Kathy (John) DeShazer and Linda (Jerry) Conners; and many nieces and nephews. He loved them all dearly. He was proceeded in death by his father George Mario DaForno and his mother Mary Jane DaForno.

George (Georgie) will be remembered for his beautiful smile, his fiery spirit, and his passion and love for his family.

Services will be held on Nov. 8, at 1:00 p.m. at Walton’s, 875 W. Second Street, Reno, Nevada.
