Turd Tournament, Oct. 5
On Oct. 5, members of the Graeagle Meadows Women’s Golf Club played their season-ending Turd Tournament and attended the annual awards luncheon, held at The Restaurant at Graeagle Meadows. The tournament, which has a Halloween theme and many wacky rules (including multiple “mulligans” and goodies on the golf course), is named for the mud “turds” that are caused by the annual aeration of the golf course fairways, reported Carol Miller, GMWGC publicity chair. In recent years, the “turds” have been swept up, causing some to refer to it as the Turdless Tournament. Alaine Flynn was crowned the 2023 turd queen.

The following winners of several season-long competitions were also announced at the awards luncheon:
- Most improved golfer: Nancy Linch
- Eclectic winners: Debbie Fuetsch, low gross (63); Cynthia Baldwin and Michele Violet, second low gross (both with 65); Cathy Macdonald, first low net (44); Mikie Burdick and Dee Walker, second low net (both with 48)
- Most birdies: Michele Violet, first place (14); Cynthia Baldwin, second place (13); Debbie Fuetsch, third place (12)
- Most “chip-ins” (from off the putting green): Cynthia Baldwin (5)
Wednesday Play Day and Shoot Out the Dirty Dozen, Oct. 11
The Graeagle Men’s Golf Club Play Day Wednesday, Oct. 11, saw 23 players competing in a low-net format, plus “skins.”
First place was won by Don Judson with a low net of 70, second place was a tie between Dave Macdonald and Mike Simpson, both with net scores of 71, and fourth place was also a tie among Norm Nichols, Jeff Monaghan, Mark Yuill, and Ron Eaton, each with a net score of 72.
There were six skins awarded: Dave Macdonald had a net 2 on 6, Dan Anderson had a net 1 on 8, Dan Friedman had a net 2 on 9, Chuck Franck had a net 2 on 10, John Grasso had a net 2 on 14, and Don Judson had a net 3 on 17.
In addition to the regular Wednesday Play Day there was also the season-ending Shoot Out of the Dirty Dozen playoff. The six players from the Wednesday Play Days, and the six players from the Friday Play Days who have accumulated the most points, based on how much they have won in prize money in each event during the year, play off for the championship, reports Norm Miller, GMGA director of communications. The winner was Don Judson with a net score of 70, second was Dave Macdonald with a net score of 71, and there was a three-way tie for third among Jeff Monaghan, Norm Nichols, and Mark Yuill each with a net score of 72.
