The Eastern Plumas Health Care Auxiliary group reported that it recently awarded $10,000 in scholarships to 10 EPHC employees. Most years the auxiliary solicits applications from all EPHC employees for funding of continuing education that improves their knowledge or performance, said Pandora Valle, who is on the EPHC Auxiliary scholarship committee.
Employees must have been employed at EPHC for at least one year. The funds can be used for
training, education, tuition fees, required books, advanced certifications, and advanced education for using or monitoring new equipment.
This year’s recipients were Heather Bouma, DeeDee Clark, Katherine Good, Kathyrn Graves, Phoebe Griffin, Amber Mahood, Michelle Romero, Angie Sutliffe, Owen Tuttle, and Byron Williams. The money went toward certification, testing and licensing, tuition, fees, and books.
A dedicated fund is available for the EPHC employee scholarships. Funds come from monetary donations made at the Nifty Thrifty thrift store in Portola, not from store sales. Store sales support both the Portola and Loyalton hospital and dental campuses through the purchase of equipment and supplies.
“The auxiliary thanks all EPHC employees for their service to our communities,” said Valle. “We also thank our communities for shopping at the Nifty Thrifty and supporting our local health facilities.”
