Snowshoe adventure, open house set at state park

Friends of Plumas Wilderness and Plumas-Eureka State Park invite everyone to embrace the beauty of winter during a pre-solstice snowshoe adventure and museum open house at the park Saturday, Dec. 16, starting at 1 p.m. (weather permitting).

Plumas-Eureka State Park interpreter Darcy Page will guide participants on a snowshoe tour departing from the Plumas-Eureka State Park Visitor Center. The tour begins at 1 p.m., offering approximately 90 minutes of winter exploration covering a scenic 2-mile route. Along the way, participants can enjoy short educational stops, warm drinks, and views of the park during winter.

After the snowshoe adventure, participants are invited to warm up in the park’s visitor center around the fireplace and explore the collections within the museum. Should snow conditions not be suitable for snowshoeing, the tour may transition to walking instead. In this eventuality, participants are advised to bring traction devices for their boots.

A limited number of snowshoes are available for rent upon request. Those interested can complete the RSVP form at https://forms.gle/yUDaCvmmaoABXyFG8 to reserve a rented pair at a suggested
donation of $5.

Organizers suggest participants bring snowshoes (or reserve rentals in advance), warm layers, water, sun protection, and sturdy boots with traction devices if the tour becomes a walking tour.
