The basketball gym at Portola Junior-Senior High School was filled with excitement last weekend as tournament participants showcased their skills. Team volunteer Amber Hughes reported that the Quincy Junior-Senior High School Lady Trojans did not disappoint, displaying impressive pick-and-rolls and game-changing 3-pointers, which led to a winning trophy.
The Lady Trojan varsity team had a thrilling game against their rivals, the Portola Tigers, and secured second place in the tournament. “Both teams displayed exceptional skills,” said Hughes, “and the match was intense.” The Tigers led the game early, but the Lady Trojans fought back fiercely, making it a neck-and-neck contest. In the final moments, the Lady Trojans secured vital points and clinched the win 52-47.
In addition, the junior varsity Lady Trojans secured third place in the tournament and defeated Portola in their final rousing game of the Tiger Classic.
Now, Hughes reported that the Lady Trojans are preparing for their next big event: the Hamilton City tournament. “This is the season’s third tournament of five, and they are determined to make their supporters and teammates proud,” said Hughes.
To support the team, players and their families are conducting a firewood giveaway prize drawing, sponsored by the Quincy Trojan Booster Club. Two winners will receive a delivery of split firewood. The drawing is set for Dec. 13. Tickets cost $20 and can be purchased from any basketball team member.
“We wouldn’t have all this success without community support,” said Hughes. “Your contribution could make all the difference in helping the team achieve their financial goals and leave a lasting impact on their season. Go Big Red!”
