Plumas National Forest reports that this weekend firefighters on the Beckwourth Ranger District plan to burn approximately 50 acres of piles near Plumas Pines and Graeagle.
The piles are located on National Forest System lands near the community and residences in the area. Pile burning operations will be highly visible. Ignitions are expected to start Saturday, Dec. 16, and continue through Monday. Smoke impacts may continue through next week.
Smoke may be visible but is not expected to have significant long-term impacts to nearby communities, including Graeagle, Mohawk Valley, Blairsden, Camp Layman, and Clio. Minor smoke impacts of short duration are possible on neighboring forest roads and state Highways 70 and 89.
If weather conditions become unfavorable, including increased or gusty winds in the area, burning will stop until conditions improve. Firefighters will be monitoring conditions throughout operations.
