Organizers report that planning is underway for the 11th annual Quincy Star Follies. The show will be returning to the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds on March 22 and 23, 2024. The Follies is billed as the premier “friend-raising” event of the Feather River College Foundation, and the cast represents the Plumas County community with members ranging in age from 8 to 80. And organizers say that the number 80 “is not a hard and fast rule by any means.” The Follies has traditionally celebrated a cast of approximately 60 community members; 45 K-12 students; and 40 Feather River College students, staff, and faculty.
The Quincy Star Follies began in 2011 as one of four California shows, the other three being in San Diego, Ridgecrest, and Incline Village. Director Don Hertel and his protégé David Wolford, who runs lights and tech, come to Plumas each year to organize two or three all-cast numbers, which may feature as many as 145 people on stage at one time.
In addition, the show features approximately 10 lip-sync dance performances in each of two acts. Follies is a family-friendly show and organizers say people of all ages enjoy music and dance, performed by familiar faces, from all music genres and decades.

Quincy Star Follies proceeds support the mission of the Feather River College Foundation by raising money for student scholarships, activities, and college programs. Follies tickets will be available starting Feb. 20 at Quincy Provisions and online at https://www.frc.edu/foundation. There may be tickets available at the door, but the show often sells out.
“The Feather River College Foundation is extremely grateful for the kindness and generosity of the Plumas County community and what better way to celebrate than to sing and dance alongside our local youth, and college students, who come from near and far to enjoy our mountain home?” asks Feather River College Foundation fundraising chair Lisa Kelly. “If you are interested in participating, there are no auditions, but the prerequisite for participation is joy, laughter, and big smiles.”
