Underburn cooperative plans Taylorsville pile burn

Conditions permitting, on Saturday, Jan. 6, and Sunday, Jan. 7, the Plumas Underburn Cooperative and Sierra Institute for Community and Environment report they will be assisting a landowner conduct a pile burn along Ann Street in Taylorsville.

“This pile burn will be conducted by citizens and wildland fire professionals in order to reduce wildfire risk to the community of Taylorsville by reducing understory fuels,” said Logan Krahenbuhl, PUC project manager. “The burn is part of a larger effort to manage the property, and community at large, for fire safety and forest health.”

Preparations have been made to reduce smoke impacts to the Indian Valley and Genesee Valley communities from this event, said Krahenbuhl. Even with this preparation, short-term smoke impacts may still affect the community. In this eventuality, PUC has household HEPA air purifiers available on a loan basis for any smoke-sensitive members of the community. Those interested may contact [email protected] to borrow an air purifier.

Local fire and air quality agencies have been notified. For air quality information go to the Fire and Smoke Map from http://www.AirNow.gov, and/or myairdistrict.com.
