Feather River College announces that it will start welcoming students back to campus and begin its spring semester Jan. 22. As is evident from this list, organizers point out that FRC loves to involve local businesses in its Week of Welcome. Nick Maffei, FRC director of marketing, outreach, and communications, commented, “We love getting our students out into the community at the start of every semester. It helps introduce new students to our wonderful community here in Quincy, including all of the local businesses and restaurants. This is an important aspect of engagement with the community that Feather River College has always done and will continue to do.”
FRC has also recently begun a new student discount program that features student discounts at many of the businesses in Quincy. The full list of those businesses and their corresponding discounts is available at https://www.frc.edu/studentservices/local-discounts-for-students.
Those interested in attending FRC this spring still have time to register for classes. Popular among locals are many of the Outdoor Recreation Leadership weekend and short-term courses, which introduce outdoor recreational skills that are relevant to the Sierra Nevada area. Examples of short-term or weekend course topics include cross-country skiing, backcountry skiing and snowboarding, avalanche technician training and white water rafting. The full list of ORL spring courses is available at https://www.frc.edu/orl/courses.
Regarding how staff and faculty feel about the beginning of another semester, Maffei said, “It is just nice to have that spark of student energy, not only back on campus, but in and around town as well. I think the community really embraces our student body, and, in turn, we are always trying to get our students to engage with our awesome community however possible.”
