Firewise meeting features update from Fire Safe Council

All are welcome to join Quincy Firewise members at their Jan. 24 community meeting. The evening’s guest speakers will be two employees of the Plumas County Fire Safe Council: Liam Galleher, county coordinator, and Amber Hughes, outreach coordinator. The meeting is set for Wednesday, Jan. 24, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the West End Theatre in Quincy (enter through Quintopia).

About the speakers

Amber Hughes’ passion for her community led her to join the Plumas County Fire Safe Council in October 2023 as the outreach coordinator. Hughes is deeply rooted in Plumas County, with her family having lived here for five generations. This has instilled in her a strong bond with the community and a dedication to its welfare. Hughes is a multifaceted individual who has honed her skills as an outreach coordinator at Feather River Food Co-op. When she’s not hustling or helping out, she likes to be outdoors observing nature. She can also be found getting her kid prepped for college, being a lounge lizard watching her favorite shows, and making epic memories with her friends and family.

Liam Galleher will join Hughes in sharing updates regarding the Fire Safe Council and the Firewise Communities program for Plumas County. Attendees can also look forward to hearing about completed,
current and future hazardous fuel reduction projects, as well as the new firewood processing plant.
The Plumas County Fire Safe Council mission is to reduce the loss of natural resources and human values caused by wildfire through Firewise community programs and pre-fire activities.

About Quincy Firewise

Quincy Firewise is a local volunteer group making efforts to create a more fire-aware and fire-prepared community. The group invites all Quincy residents, as well as those from surrounding areas and other Firewise communities, to gather on the fourth Wednesday of every month from 5 to 6 p.m. at the West End Theatre. In addition to monthly guest speakers, the group provides up-to-date information on home/property insurance, evacuation preparedness education, home hardening tips, and home ignition zone design. It also offers peer-to-peer home consultation signups to assist efforts in home hardening and hazardous fuel removal. More information is available via [email protected] or on Facebook.
