League of Women Voters introduces local candidates

Feb. 5 forum features Quincy area supervisors

The League of Women Voters of Plumas County is sponsoring four candidate forums countywide, beginning with a presentation Monday, Feb. 5, in the conference room at the Quincy branch of the Plumas County Library.

The first forum, set for 7 to 9 p.m., will feature candidates for District 4 Plumas County supervisor. Incumbent Supervisor Greg Hagwood faces challenger Mimi Hall. The forum will also introduce William Abramson and W. Wayne Yates Jr., the candidates vying for Plumas County Superior Court judge.

Todd Johns, Plumas County sheriff, and Paul Vaughn, of Feather River College, will address voter questions on Measure A, the proposal to raise Plumas County’s sales tax from 7.25% to 8%. The approximately $2.4 million generated would fund the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office.

The other community forums, featuring the Superior Court judge candidates and Measure A question-and-answer sessions, will be held as follows:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 6, 7 – 9 p.m., Chester Memorial Hall (225 Gay St.).
  • Monday, Feb. 12, 7 – 9 p.m., Historic Taylorsville Hall (4322 Main St.).
  • Tuesday, Feb. 20, 7 – 9 p.m. Portola Veterans Hall (449 W. Sierra Ave.).

In addition to the Superior Court judge candidate introduction and Measure A discussion, the forum in Taylorsville will include a statement from Supervisor Kevin Goss, who ran uncontested for the District 2 supervisorial seat.

At the Portola forum, uncontested District 1 Supervisor Dwight Ceresola will offer a brief statement in addition to the Superior Court judge candidate introduction and Measure A discussion.
