Magic Beanstalk Players awards local scholarship

Magic Beanstalk Players, dramaworks’ youth drama program, recently announced that Sylvia Klauck is this year’s recipient of the Elliott Johnson Smart Scholarship. “Sylvia is very deserving of this award,” said program director Danielle Wagner Plocki. “She has been a Magic Beanstalk Player for many years and has shown dedication to the program. She loves taking on challenging roles and has shown commitment to improving herself as an actor by participating in a recent dramaworks community theatre production.”

Sylvia will be graduating from the Magic Beanstalk Players program this spring as a sixth grader. She will be playing the role of Pepper in the upcoming production of “Annie KIDS.” The production, which features two full casts in six performances, will be held at the West End Theatre April 11 – 14. Tickets will go on sale to the public in March.

The Elliott Johnson Smart Scholarship was created by Smart’s family and contributions have come from many loving friends, family and community members. In memory of Smart’s spirit and his love of theatre, the scholarship is awarded to one deserving student each year who has demonstrated exemplary performance, enthusiasm and dedication to the Magic Beanstalk Players youth drama program.

The group also keeps Smart’s spirit alive with its mascot, Elliott the Octopus. This stuffed toy, representative of Smart’s favorite animal, makes an appearance in every Magic Beanstalk Players production.
