Annual Rotary speech contest set for March

The annual Quincy Rotary speech contest, set for Monday, March 11, at noon, is open to Quincy Junior-Senior High School and Plumas Charter School students in grades nine through 12. The 2024 theme is “Rotary is a volunteer organization. How have you volunteered towards promoting HOPE in the world, and how did you see HEARTS impacted through the experience?” The event will be held at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds’ Mineral Building, where students will address a panel of judges as well as Quincy Rotary members.

Prizes will be awarded to winners in first, second and third place. The first-place winner will be slated to compete for additional recognition at the regional and District 5190 competitions, with additional rewards for excellence.

Applications are available at both Quincy High, from Erica Purdue, and Plumas Charter, from Melissa Washburn. Also, interested participants may obtain applications by contacting Steve Hill via [email protected] or Jeb Heiman via [email protected]. Completed applications may be submitted to either Hill or Heiman electronically, or mailed to Rotary Speech Contest, P.O. Box 98, Meadow Valley, CA, 95971.
