A new free tax preparation service from the AARP Foundation is now available in Plumas County for the first time. The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program is staffed by volunteers who help participants of all ages with free income tax preparation and electronic filing for federal and California tax returns. AARP membership is not required, and there is no upper income limit for participants.
Three local residents are serving as volunteers for the program. They have been trained and certified by the IRS, and they use laptops and an IRS secure router provided by the AARP Foundation.
The Elks Lodge at 2004 E. Main St. in Quincy provides the facility for the appointments and tax preparation and tax submission. Appointments are available Fridays and Saturdays until April 6, with final tax return submission due April 12. Call 530-616-8317 to schedule an appointment.
