New slide closes Feather River Canyon

UPDATE: On Feb. 27, Caltrans District 3 reported that it plans to keep the Feather River Canyon closure in place throughout the upcoming heavy rain to maintain safety. Crews are continuing scaling work. The new estimated reopening is for mid-week next week. “We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we work diligently to restore access to this vital route,” said Caltrans.

Scaling work continues to ensure safety in the Feather River Canyon.

UPDATE: On Feb. 23, Caltrans District 3 announced that State Route 70 is still unsafe for travel in the Feather River Canyon. Caltrans hopes to reopen the highway by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Cleanup is still underway after a slide closed the Feather River Canyon yet again.

Heavy rain in the Feather River Canyon triggered more slides, prompting another road closure on State Route 70 on Feb. 20, reported Caltrans District 3.

The closure spans from Jarbo Gap to the Greenville Wye. “Our team is actively working to clear the slides,” said Caltrans. “Drive safely and keep QuickMap handy for updates!”

Updates are available on the Caltrans District 3 Facebook page.
