Quincy Firewise meeting focuses on air quality rule

At the February Quincy Firewise meeting, Greg Kinne will be presenting information on Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District Rule 318. Organizers report that this is a timely and important topic, because the air management district is hosting a public workshop and a hearing on revisions to this rule in March.

Rule 318 covers the open burning regulations for American and Thompson valleys. “Changes to Rule 318 may have significant implications for our community,” say organizers. Kinne’s presentation will include a brief tutorial on the background and intention of the current rule, along with the core leadership’s rationale for amending Rule 318. Time will be allocated for questions and answers after the presentation.

The Quincy Firewise community meeting will be held at the West End Theatre, 541 Main St. in Quincy, on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 5 p.m. Members extend this invitation to all in the interest of protecting the local community from the devastating effects of wildfire and in the belief that residents can take collective actions to keep their town and surrounding forest healthy and safe: “Please join us and consider bringing a friend or neighbor.”
