Inaugural Student and Community Job Fair set for March 6

Feather River College has announced that it will be working in partnership with the Alliance for Workforce Development to host the inaugural FRC Student and Community Job Fair on March 6 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the college gym. Organizers report that the fair will bring companies and organizations from all over the region to connect job seekers with potential employment. It is open to FRC students and also to anyone from the community looking for a job or a change in career.

“One of the benefits of living in a small town with a small community college is the big opportunities for students and community job seekers to find employment that aligns with their preferred career,” said Nick Maffei, director of marketing, communications and outreach at FRC. He explained that this is the reason behind the job fair.

“We receive a lot of requests from employers to connect with our students with the hope to recruit them for open positions in the county,” said Carolyn Shipp, FRC career and technical education program coordinator. “We hope this job fair will offer that opportunity, but also offer a chance for the community to find jobs as well.”

This event will give FRC students and community members face-to-face employment networking time
and access to part-time, full-time and summer jobs that can help them further their employability skills
and specialize in their preferred industry.

The evening will start with exclusive FRC student access to the employers from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. with a free dinner for all students in attendance. The job fair will then be open to the whole community from 6 to 8 p.m., with the option to purchase dinner at the event.

The college is also partnering with the Alliance for Workforce Development, the career services organization in the region, to help connect all local community job seekers with employers. “Working with AFWD has been so helpful for us,” Shipp said. “They are the experts when it comes to filling employer needs and connecting job seekers with helpful resources like job fairs.”

Maffei said the list of employers set to attend the fair is ever growing. The college anticipates a variety of organizations and industries to be at the event including the U.S. Forest Service, Sierra Pacific Industries, municipal and educational organizations, and tourism and recreation companies.

The fair is free to all in attendance, including businesses. Any individual or organization interested in
more information or in registering for a booth can visit https://www.frc.edu/cted/employer-outreach-events or contact Carolyn Shipp at
