Makerspace development proposed in Quincy

Suzanne de Martimprey reports that an opportunity is being presented to foster a communal creative space in Quincy: The Quincy Grove. The project is in the early developmental period, assessing interest and engagement of the community. De Martimprey invites interested “creatives and creative supporters” to engage via a survey and a community forum. “Traditionally makerspaces are envisioned and created by the members themselves, so determining a solid foundation of active participation is necessary to make this project a reality,” she said.

The survey is available at https://forms.gle/uNuRF78jYn7PEznw8. Two options for the forum are offered: Sunday, March 3, at 4 p.m. or Monday, March 4, at 5:30 p.m. The forum will be held at the potential makerspace site: 567 Lawrence St. #1.

At this location, there are two buildings available, said de Martimprey: one 1,000-square-foot unit on the main street and one 700-square-foot detached garage. “The buildings do need some renovations,” she said, “however, many hands make light work!”

A makerspace is a place that provides the equipment and technologies for an array of creative projects. This space and equipment would be accessible to monthly members, providing opportunities for both emerging and experienced artists. This space could also serve as a place for holding classes and workshops for various trades.
