FRC soccer team wins statewide academic award

Feather River College announced Feb. 26 that its 2022 men’s soccer team won the California Community College Athletic Association Scholar Team Award. This award means the team had the highest team GPA for the fall 2022 semester in the state of California, which had 75 teams participate in men’s soccer. The 21-member FRC team earned a 3.36 cumulative team GPA, with 85% of the team earning a GPA of 3.0 or above. On the pitch, the team had the following successes:

  • 11-9 overall record.
  • 7-1 conference record, Golden Valley Conference co-champion.
  • First round regional playoff win.
  • First team all-conference selections: Ben Calam, Isacco Tomelleri, Nolo Manamela, Kieran Swanson.
  • Second team all-conference selections: Rhys Cook McCormick, Figo Cheuk, Toby Gilham.
  • GVC goalkeeper of the year: Jack Cook.
  • GVC co-defender of the year: Luke Quinn.
  • GVC offensive player of the year: Devonte Richards.
  • GVC most valuable player of the year: Tajio James.
  • California all-region selections: Tajio James, Devonte Richards.
  • California all-state selection: Tajio James.
  • Scholar all-American selection: Tajio James.
  • All-American selection: Tajio James.

FRC Superintendent/President Kevin Trutna offered congratulations to the team, head coach Conrad Gooley, assistant coach Alyssa Castillo and “all of the support staff and faculty who helped our student-athletes earn this prestigious award.”
