Nonprofit healthcare organization Vitalant will set up in Quincy Tuesday, March 5, and Wednesday, March 6, for the first Quincy community blood drive of the year.
The drive is being sponsored by Friends of the Quincy Blood Drive, community members dedicated to making the March drive one for the record books, says local drive coordinator Elizabeth Smailes. “And,” she adds, “donors will have a chance to win a $5,000 gift card.”
Every three seconds, someone in the United States needs blood, and more donors are needed daily for situations such as accidents, trauma and surgeries. Cancer patients also require transfusions, and premature babies often need blood as well.
“Donors spend about an hour giving a pint of blood, but that investment results in enormous returns to the health of our community,” say organizers. Vitalant in Reno is the source of Plumas County’s blood supply.
Held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the drive runs from noon to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The church is located on the corner of Bucks Lake Road and Bellamy Lane just west of Plumas District Hospital.
To make an appointment, call Smailes at 530-289-6511 or visit donors.vitalant.org and use the blood drive code QUINCY.
If the desired appointment time is already booked, donors are encouraged to walk in whenever it’s convenient — the Vitalant crew will fit them in.
Donors are encouraged to eat a solid meal before donating blood and to bring their photo ID.
