Feather River College Foundation awards gifts

The Feather River College Foundation announces financial awards to six FRC program applicants, totaling $28,000. Large gift opportunities in the amounts of $1,500 to $5,000 are a new program for the foundation, and were first announced in October 2023.

The 2023-2024 large gift award recipients are the school’s soccer program, basketball program, English department, health and exercise program, baseball program and marketing department. Awards will fund a new sound system for the baseball field, weightlifting and training equipment, iPads, a digital score table and a new camera.

Over the past six years, the foundation has offered mini-grants for up to $1,500 twice a year, in October and February. The mini-grant program has been in place since 2015 with disbursements totaling $79,000. Combined with the large gift program, the total amount of funds awarded since 2015 is $107,000.

“Supporting Feather River College programs is the mission of the foundation and it is the core of what college foundations should do,” said funding committee chair Lisa Kelly. Funded projects must be sustainable after the first round of funding, directly impact FRC students, and be relevant to the needs of the college and the goals of the foundation.

One of main sources of mini-grants and large gift revenue is the Quincy Star Follies event. The Follies has been funding foundation giving programs since its inception in 2011. The annual Quincy Star Follies raises money through ticket sales and sponsorships. There are roughly 150 participants in the Follies including 70 community members, 40 FRC students and 20 K-12 students. This year, the show will be held March 22 and 23 and tickets are on sale at Quincy Provisions and online at http://www.frc.edu/foundation.

Past awards have funded field trips, conferences and student activities, a school publication, specific classroom equipment, tools and educational resources. The foundation reports that it intends to continue to offer the awards annually to FRC programs, groups, associations and individuals.
