Free concert series focuses on local issues

With support from Upstate California Creative Corps and produced in partnership with Plumas Rural Services’ Domestic Violence Services, Corinne West has composed and produced an original, five-song project. “Transformations in Song” culminates in five free community-based concerts.

Each of West’s songs will address issues specific to Plumas and Sierra counties and related to the needs of the community, ranging from wildfire displacement and climate mitigation, watershed health and resource management, to social justice and mental health. West’s focus is to bring awareness to these issues and catalyze personal empowerment through a song circle that promotes intergenerational and cross-cultural learning.

West’s concerts will be held across Plumas and Sierra counties. Though the concerts are free, the venues are intimate and tickets are required. Tickets are available on Plumas Rural Services’ website at https://plumasruralservices.org/domestic-violence-services.

Concerts are set as follows:

“California songwriter Corinne West is a poet, a tunesmith, a visionary and an utterly stellar performer,” report organizers, who say her music evokes the eternal stories of mystic troubadours, while speaking with power and grace to a modern audience. A very well-established figure on the acoustic roots scene, West has recorded five critically acclaimed albums and has toured extensively throughout North America and Europe. Her distinctive style is marked by lush vocals, pristine guitar and bold lyricism that reflects grit, discerning optimism and a true love for the human experience.

These concerts are funded in part by the California Arts Council, a state agency, through the Upstate California Creative Corps program, administered by Nevada County Arts Council. Grantees of this program are collectively part of a media, outreach and engagement campaign designed to increase awareness for issues such as public health; water and energy conservation; climate mitigation; and emergency preparedness, relief and recovery.

In June 2023, county arts agencies across California’s Upstate Region, led by Nevada County Arts Council, announced $3.38 million in grant awards to 27 partner agencies and 54 lead creative partners, with a total of 1,010 artists and culture bearers supporting initiatives serving California’s least represented peoples, and most vulnerable communities and environments.
