Quincy Star Follies offers entertainment, community spirit

Held at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds, the Quincy Star Follies event brings together local talent and enthusiastic volunteers to support the Feather River College Foundation with a night of entertainment “like no other.” Amateur singers lip-synch to popular tunes and dance their hearts out, often in creative costumes. “The Quincy Star Follies is a well-known and beloved annual Plumas County event that lights up the small town of Quincy with its glitz, glamour and community spirit,” said FRC Foundation fundraising chair Lisa Kelly.

Four shows will be offered this year: at 6 and 8 p.m. March 22 and 23. Tickets cost $20 for adults and $15 for children and can be purchased at Quincy Provisions, Wildflower Café and online at www.frc.edu/foundation.

Kelly reports that preparations for the Follies typically begin months in advance, drawing community members from all corners of the county. “Rehearsals are a whirlwind of excitement and camaraderie as participants fine-tune their acts and bond with fellow performers,” she said. “Meanwhile, behind the scenes, volunteers work tirelessly on costumes, choreography and technical aspects to ensure that the production dazzles from start to finish.”

Kelly pointed out that the Follies is made possible by a large team of local helpers who plan the show, create choreography, help with setup, operate lights and sound, edit songs, provide outreach, sell tickets, act as sponsors for the show and more. Support is provided by both businesses and individuals. This year, students in Plumas Charter School’s Arts, Media and Entertainment career technical education pathway will be running spotlights and learning about sound board operation. They will also assist in editing the video of the show.

Proceeds from ticket sales, concessions and sponsorships support the FRC Foundation, which directly supports students, staff and college programs through mini-grants and larger gifts.
