Jack Trout, a master fly fisherman and actor from Plumas County, is set to grace the big screen in his latest film, “Peter Five Eight,” scheduled for release in theaters March 22.
A Portola native, born July 31, 1967, Trout has made a name for himself in Hollywood through various projects, including the thriller “Peter Five Eight” (March 2024), the 10-episode series “The Offer” (2022) and the PBS documentary “The Sacramento River of Life,” narrated by Peter Coyote in 2005. Additionally, Trout has appeared in notable commercials such as the Atlantic/Land Rover Defender-Go Outside campaign with John Mayer, earning recognition as the Best Auto Commercial of 2021.
As a member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG/AFTRA) and an active participant in the Shasta Film Commission in Northern California, Trout is deeply involved in the film industry. He is set to take on a co-role as associate producer and actor in the upcoming film “The Lemurian Candidate” (2024). He recently secured a role in a northern California film by renowned director Paul Thomas Anderson, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn.

Trout’s journey into acting began at Portola Junior-Senior High School, where his former drama teacher, Keri Zacher, cast him in his first play in ninth grade, igniting his passion for the craft. Trout advanced his career by leveraging IMDb Pro, an online database of information related to the film industry, to see what films are being made and calling their casting agents.
Trout said his advice for anyone who wants to become an actor is to check in with film commissions in Reno, as well as in Humboldt and Shasta counties. The film commissions and casting agents will need a headshot and full body shot, he said. He also recommends attending film commission events and film festivals.
“It’s all about relationships and making contacts with people to let them know that you have this kind of interest,” Trout said. “If I didn’t have my eyes open and put myself out there, I wouldn’t have seen this incredible opportunity.”

Outside of his acting endeavors, Trout is passionate about connecting people with nature. He can often be found on a river with his beloved dog Trinity. Proud of his roots in Plumas County, Trout remains committed to representing his community positively in Hollywood. For more information about Jack Trout, visit his IMDb page.
