Rep. Kiley announces Vietnam veterans pinning ceremony

RSVP required by March 22

Rep. Kevin Kiley, of California’s 3rd Congressional District, which includes Plumas County, has announced that he will thank and honor local Vietnam veterans at a pinning ceremony March 29.

“On behalf of a grateful nation, I am honored to recognize our Vietnam veterans … for their service and sacrifice,” he said.

The 2008 National Defense Authorization Act established the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration with an objective to thank and honor the country’s 7 million Vietnam veterans and 10 million families of those who served. “I am honored to partner with this commemorative program to present each participating veteran or family member with a Vietnam veteran lapel pin and a certificate of special recognition as a token of the nation’s gratitude,” said Kiley.

Participation

An online form is available to nominate a friend or family member who deserves this recognition. Those interested can also call Kiley’s district office for assistance at 916-724-2575.

To be eligible, the nominated individual must be in at least one of the following eligibility categories:

  • U.S. veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time during the period of Nov. 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975, regardless of location.
  • Former, living American military prisoners of war from the Vietnam War as listed by the Department of Defense.
  • Immediate family members of American military personnel listed as missing and unaccounted for from the Vietnam War by the Department of Defense.
  • Immediate family members of a veteran who is listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
  • Surviving spouses (at the time of death) of veterans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time during the period from November 1955 to May 15, 1975, regardless of location.

Nominated individuals must reside in California’s 3rd Congressional District. Pins can be presented to veterans or spouses of deceased veterans.

Pinning ceremony

The ceremony will take place March 29, 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Folsom Middle School’s multipurpose room at 500 Blue Ravine Road in Folsom. RSVP by March 22 by calling 916-724-2575.
