For the month of April, the Plumas Arts Gallery at 525 Main St. in Quincy is featuring the work of painter Liz Swindell. An opening reception for her show will be held Friday, April 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the gallery.
An artist, educator, curator and community builder, Swindell is an East Coast transplant living in Quincy. She said she is passionate about the arts and believes they are an important tool for “celebrating our unique realities, creating connections and building a more joyous and understanding world.”
Swindell’s artworks are colorful reflections of her travels and experiences, often many layers thick, embedded with hidden ideas, messages, meditations and memories.
Plumas Arts also coordinates the art display at Patti’s Thunder Café. The featured artist there for April is Quincy-based Pondside Nesters, with a range of handmade birdhouses. Pondside Nesters was created by Chris and Jennifer Hendrickson.

“We specialize in creative and unique birdhouses,” said the Hendricksons. “Our houses are made almost 100% from recycled woods and metals.” Most of the wood they use is sourced from in and around Plumas County, and pieces are usually between 60 and 100 years old.
The hole size used in most Pondside Nesters houses is 1 1/2 inches, which accommodates a wide variety of small birds common in most areas, the Hendricksons say.
The Plumas Arts Gallery and office hours are Wednesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Learn more at https://www.plumasarts.org/.
