The Magic Beanstalk Players, dramaworks’ youth drama program for students in kindergarten through sixth grade, will tell the story of everyone’s favorite optimist, Annie, at the West End Theatre April 11 – 14.
Based on the popular comic strip “Little Orphan Annie,” “Annie Kids” tells of a spunky Depression-era orphan determined to find her parents, who left her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan’s evil schemes, befriends President Franklin Roosevelt and finds a new family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
Organizers promise audiences will be singing along to favorite songs such as “Tomorrow,” “You’re Never
Fully Dressed Without a Smile” and “It’s a Hard-Knock Life.”
Director Danielle Wagner Plocki said, “We have 55 amazing students from seven different Plumas County schools participating in this production. Due to our large enrollment we have two full casts of the show each performing three times.”
The Rockin’ Orphans Cast performs Thursday, April 11, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 13, at 2 and 4 p.m. The Tomorrow Cast performs Friday, April 12, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 14, at 2 and 4 p.m. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets are available at http://www.westendtheatre.us.
Wagner Plocki credits the talents of the production staff, which also includes Kelsey Marchus, Samantha Williams, Stephanie McCoy and Tina Thorman, who have helped shape this “delightful” production.
The Magic Beanstalk Players drama students recently had the opportunity to perform several musical numbers and scenes from “Annie Kids” for the student bodies at Quincy Elementary School and Plumas Charter School on March 28. Fifty drama students participated in these performances, and upward of 400 students were in attendance as audience members.
Magic Beanstalk Players classes take place during the school year, and the program offers a Summer Drama Camp each year. This year’s drama camp will take place July 29 – Aug. 3. Student registration is available at http://www.westendtheatre.us. Magic Beanstalk Players is a tuition-based program that also provides financial aid to ensure that no child is turned away from participating due to lack of funds. Donations can be made payable to Magic Beanstalk Players and sent to 14 Crescent St., Quincy, CA 95971.
