After over a decade of dedicated service, Plumas Charter School bids a fond farewell to a cherished member of its family: Pam Lyman. Lyman has been an integral part of the community since 2010, serving as the administrative assistant at Indian Valley Academy. As she embarks on this new chapter of her life — retirement — the school reflects on the invaluable contributions she has made and staffers express their gratitude.
At the Historic Taylorsville Hall during IVA’s annual student showcase March 27, site director Ryan Schramel and IVA founder Sue Weber took the stage to honor Lyman. They thanked Lyman for her hard work and dedication to IVA over the years. Lyman was presented with gifts and cake from the PCS administration and Mountain Valley Parents Club.
PCS points out that as Lyman starts her retirement journey, her impact on the IVA family remains strong, leaving behind a legacy of support and encouragement.
Student showcase
The annual student showcase event draws a large crowd from the Indian Valley community and beyond. From custom furniture to jewelry, welding projects to art, foraging to video production, the student projects on display cover a wide range of interests and talents. For junior high and high school students at IVA, participating in the showcase is a requirement. PCS says this fosters a culture of exploration and innovation.

Each year, parents and attendees anticipate the showcase and watch the progression of projects over time. “It’s a testament to the growth and development of the students, as well as the supportive community that surrounds them,” says PCS.
During the event, attendees had the opportunity to vote on their favorite projects. First place, second place and honorable mention winners in staff, student and people’s choice categories were awarded cash prizes.

After the votes were cast and winners announced, IVA’s Mountain Valley Parents Club hosted a taco dinner fundraiser. The money raised supports activities for IVA students in third through 12th grade.
