Plumas County Veteran Services announces it is kicking off the first of the 2024 series of community evening presentations titled VA 101. Each of these programs will be presented in Quincy, Portola and Chester. The topic for this initial class is disability compensation claims, with an emphasis on increases and secondary conditions.
Veterans, veteran spouses and dependents are encouraged to ensure they do not miss out on compensation benefits they are entitled to. “They also need to consider whether an existing claim is entitled to an increase or has a secondary condition, either of which will increase their monthly benefit payment,” said Veteran Services Officer Bill Cook.
Cook points out that orthopedic and hearing disabilities rarely improve and usually worsen, which represents a potential increase. In addition, rated disabilities such as hypertension, sinusitis/rhinitis, diabetes and others have the potential for secondary conditions. “If you suffer from one of the secondary conditions from a rated disease, that is a ratable increase,” said Cook. “Do not live with regret and fault yourself in the future for not taking full advantage of a potential benefit. Learn what is now available.”
The presentations will begin at 6 p.m. at the following dates and locations:
- Portola, April 25, Portola branch library, 34 Third Ave.
- Quincy, April 26, Quincy branch library, 445 Jackson St.
- Chester, April 30, Memorial Hall, 225 Gay St.
All sessions include pizza and refreshments.
