Feather River College chemistry professor and STEM advisor Kurt Smart announces that the college will host a virtual lecture April 22 with Jennifer Doudna, pioneer of the CRISPR gene-editing technique and recipient of the Nobel Prize in chemistry. The lecture will be provided through a partnership with California State University, Chico.
The lecture will be presented virtually at the Gallery on the FRC campus starting at 1 p.m. Smart will provide a quick tutorial on the CRISPR technique at 12:30.
This free lecture is directed at an audience of undergraduate chemistry students, so it may not be very accessible for younger students, said Smart. It is recommended for students who have already had some high school biology and/or chemistry. High school students from Quincy Junior-Senior High School and Plumas Charter School will be attending, and Smart invites other students and community members interested in science, technology, engineering and math to attend as well.
