Book in Common: community invited to participate

Quincy Junior-Senior High School recently launched its Book in Common program, in which everyone reads the same book at the same time and has the opportunity to share in discussions. Every student and staff member gets a copy of the book, and discussions are held each Friday during the school’s tutorial time.

The book that has been chosen is “Paradise on Fire” by Jewell Parker Rhodes.

“The novel is a young adult novel inspired by the Camp Fire, and we hope reading this book will invite discussion about our resilience, connection and healing through literacy,” says Erica Perdue, Quincy High’s literacy coordinator. “We ordered extra copies of the novel to share with community members as well, so please reach out if you would like to read the novel with us.”

Organizers invite the community to join them: “Why not read with us and share in our discussions?”

Those who would like to participate in the Book in Common event may email Erica Perdue at [email protected] and request a copy of “Paradise on Fire.”
