The Feather River Tourism Association announced that it recently worked to promote and build visibility for Plumas County by participating in the Visit California media reception in San Francisco, attended by 39 other counties and over 75 travel-related media outlets, freelancers and influencers.
“This is the first year Plumas County has attended,” said Sharon Roberts, owner of St. Bernard Lodge and marketing committee chair. “For the past two years, particularly since the Dixie Fire, the board has been aggressive in implementing a very strategic advertising and public relations campaign and felt now, with the momentum we have created, it was time for us to take the next step to maximize the investment, time and effort into the campaigns.”
Press kits, postcards representing Plumas County’s four seasons, and Plumas knot confections, donated by Carey Candy Co., were given to the media. Organizers said the most-asked question was “Where is Plumas County?” After receiving the pitch from an FRTA representative, participants said the information gives them “something new to write about.” They also expressed surprise to hear about a place with wide-open spaces and no traffic, where visitors can see the stars.

The FRTA marketing team members say they have spent much time developing what makes Plumas County unique and a must to visit. “There are other mountain areas that offer lakes and rivers but we are different,” said Roberts. “We do have expanses where you will never see another fisherman, hiker or biker.” She also pointed out the area’s limited number of traffic signals, lack of traffic jams, quirky shops and friendly folks.
FRTA said the goal of the exposure for the county is to garner some stories and encourage media representatives to visit Plumas County so they can experience the “uniqueness, recreation and quirky vibe” of the county. The marketing committee feels that promoting Plumas County at the event will heighten the visibility of the county as a destination for everyone from seniors to the adventurous to family travelers.
