Plumas Arts announces a gallery opening reception Friday, May 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. at 525 Main St. in Quincy. For the month of May, Plumas Arts will be displaying the work of Plumas County students. Student art month features work from Plumas Charter School, C. Roy Carmichael Elementary School, Portola Junior-Senior High School, Quincy Junior-Senior High School and Feather River College.

Patti’s Thunder display
Plumas Arts also coordinates the art display at Patti’s Thunder Café. For the months of May and June, Patti’s Thunder Cafe is exhibiting a show by Tina Thorman, also known as Trixie Hollyhox.
Thorman is originally from the Sacramento area and has been a Plumas County resident since 2015. She has been creating murals since summer 2020 and acrylic paintings since she was very young. She specializes in fantasy and scenic art, using bright colors with whimsical touches.
Thorman is also a first-grade teacher at Plumas Charter School in Quincy. She has 30 years of teaching experience, which she uses in the many painting sessions she teaches around the area. She said she enjoys painting stage sets for the West End Theatre and has created pieces for both community productions and Magic Beanstalk Players youth productions.

Thorman said she enjoys hiking the surrounding wild and scenic areas, finding inspiration and references as she explores. She has always enjoyed fantasy fiction and admits that when she looks at a beautiful snowscape, or forested path, she imagines fantastical creatures or characters emerging from the scene before her. She loves to include unexpected charm in her work — something that makes the viewer smile or some touch of warmth or comfort. Some of her art has a dark side, too, but even those pieces include a hint of light or hope.
The Plumas Arts gallery and office hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. More information is available at https://www.plumasarts.org/.
