Feather River College and Chico State University came together Monday, April 29, along with six other north state community colleges, to sign a memorandum of understanding to formalize a streamlined transfer process for students interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Chico State. FRC reports that this is huge news for local Plumas residents interested in attending college, because it means that high school students can now begin their higher education studies at FRC at no cost, and then have guaranteed admission to Chico State by meeting the eligibility requirements.
Feather River College currently provides opportunities for local high school students to take college credit courses while in high school. Because local students qualify for the Plumas Pipeline program at FRC, students can attend Feather River College for free while in high school and after, and now they have a streamlined entrance into Chico State to pursue a bachelor’s degree.
“Chico State has been a wonderful partner over the years by providing tours to FRC students, coming to the FRC campus for on-the-spot admission decisions and participating in our annual College and Career Fair,” said Kevin Trutna, superintendent/president of FRC. “We are excited to formalize the agreement and support Chico State as they serve the North State.”
The collaboration means that Chico State guarantees admission to students from FRC as long as they meet minimum eligibility requirements and apply by published deadlines. Typically, students at FRC work with academic advisors to develop an education plan that sets them up for success, explains Nick Maffei, director of marketing, communications and outreach for FRC. Now that includes guaranteed admission to a nearby California State University.
“The recently signed memorandum of understanding will go into effect immediately, which is great news for current students at Feather River College,” said Maffei. In addition, he encourages local high school students who are still unsure of their path after high school to contact an academic advisor at FRC and begin discussing their options. “Now more than ever is the perfect time,” he said.
