Golf Report: April 28 – May 4

May 1: Wednesday Play Day

On Wednesday, May 1, 21 players competed in seven three-man teams for the Graeagle Men’s Golf Association Wednesday Play Day. The format was 1, 2, 3, plus “skins.”  In this format one net score counts on the first hole, two net balls count on the second hole, and all three net scores count on the third hole. On the fourth hole the sequence repeats, thus resulting in the 1, 2, 3 pattern. With this format par is 144.

Winners were as follows:

• First-place team: Dave Macdonald, Jack Gilbert and Ron Eaton with a net score of 136. 
• Second place: tie between the team of Norm Nichols, Chuck Franck and Dennis Flynn and the team of Anthony Miranda, Tony Gonzales and Paul Senft.

There were six “skins” awarded, one each as follows:

• Tony Gonzales, with a 2 on the fourth hole.
• Anthony Miranda, with a 3 on the 10th hole.
• Paul Senf, with a 3 on the 11th hole.
• Jim Reynolds, with a 2 on the 13th hole.
• Nathan Coats, with a 2 on the 16th hole.
• Jeff Monaghan, with a 4 on the 18th hole.

May 2: Ace of Aces qualifier

On Thursday, May 2, 20 Graeagle Meadows Women’s Golf Club players competed in the monthly Ace of Aces qualifier. At the end of the golfing season, the low gross and low net monthly Ace of Aces qualifiers compete in the annual Ace of Aces playoff. 

The May winners were as follows:

• Low gross: Cynthia Baldwin, with a score of 81.
• Low net: Beth Yuill, with a net score of 75.

May 2: Even Holes

The Graeagle Meadows Women’s Golf Club players also competed in a game of Even Holes, in which only the player’s score on the nine even holes (i.e., the second, fourth, etc.) counted as her game score. 

Flight 1 winners were as follows:

• Low gross first place: Cynthia Baldwin, with a score of 38.
• Low gross second place: Michele Violett, 42.
• Low gross third place: Holly Anderson, 43. 
• Low net first place: Holly Anderson, net 32.
• Low net second place: Ginger Holladay-Houston, net 33.
• Low net third place: Alaine Flynn, net 36.

Flight 2 winners were as follows:

• Low gross first place: Lois Childress, 50.
• Low gross second place: Nancy Linch, 51.
• Low gross third place: Shelly Drake, 52.   
• Low net first place: Beth Yuill, net 32.
• Low net second place: tie between Lois Childress and Nancy Linch, both with net 35.

And there were “birdies” galore: one each for Holly Anderson, Ginger Holladay-Houston and Patty Monaghan.

May 3: Friday Play Day

There were 24 Graeagle Men’s Golf Association players signed up for the Friday Play Day and the game was Combined Par Points, plus “skins.” Winners were as follows:

• First place: team of Mike Simpson and Mike Quesenberry, with net par points of 54. 
• Second place: team of Norm Miller and Norm Nichols, with a net score of 48. 
• Third place: team of Grant Mayfield and Don Barnes, with a net score of 47. 
• Fourth place: tie between the team of Lance Ragen and Andy Knudsen and the team of Chuck Hein and David Macdonald, both with net scores of 46.

There were four “skins” awarded: two to Mike Quesenberry, with 2s on the fourth and 11th holes; and one each to Norm Nichols, with a 1 on the eighth hole; and Bob Laxaque, with a 3 on the 18th hole.
