On April 25, Soroptimist International of Quincy welcomed approximately 100 friends, family and award recipients to its Local Women Making a Local Difference awards banquet. Tiffany Leonhardt, Soroptimist president, commented, “In the spirit of our mission, we have come together tonight to celebrate a group of remarkable local women who through their professional, business and volunteer activities enhance the lives of women and girls, and the broader community.”
Local women were honored as follows: Vivian Hansen, Women in History Award; Karen Schad, Women in Business Award; Wendy Hood, Sunshine Award; Michaela Trammell, Women Rebuilding Community Award; and Sarena Barker, Woman of Distinction Award.
Mara Beatty, winner of the Soroptimist of the Year Award, presented Debra Moore with the Women Helping Community Award in honor of her many years of dedicated newspaper reporting.

The Live Your Dream Award, and $1,000, went to Timberlyn Mannies for overcoming barriers in pursuing higher education. Quincy Junior-Senior High School junior Addison Gay received the Outstanding S-Club Member Award, and $100, for her excellent leadership and organizational skills. Simone Smith, Quincy High senior, received the Violet Richardson Community Service Award, and $250, for exemplary volunteerism and community service.
Tiffany Leonhardt gave a presentation honoring the town of Greenville. Kris Leonhardt, Bob Edwards and Gary Fauver were honored with the Penny Pines Award in remembrance of their years of notable service to the community. Penny Pines supports reforestation by up to one acre of tree seedlings to be planted by the Plumas National Forest.
Organizers offer special thanks to Kris Miravalle and her Awards Banquet Committee. Soroptimist also thanks the community for its continued support of the group’s fundraising and service projects including the Community Sing event, annual Easter egg hunt, maintenance of the Golden Triangle area across from the California Highway Patrol office in Quincy, and local scholarships for high school students.
