May 8: Spring Breakfast, scramble game
On Wednesday, May 8, following the Graeagle Men’s Golf Association annual Spring Breakfast and general membership meeting, 28 members enjoyed a windy and cool scramble game. The game was played from the white, red and green tees. The team would choose which tees to use, but each set of tees must be used six times. In addition, each player’s drive must be used three times. Winners were as follows:
- First place: Chuck Frank, Leo Reihsen, Nate Coates and Lance Raglen, with a gross score of 63.
- Second place: Grant Mayfield, Norm Miller, Mark Yuill and Don Judson, with a gross score of 67.
- Third place: Jeff Monagham, Dan Friedman, Michael Simpson and Tony Gonzales, with a gross score of 69.
May 10: Friday Play Day
On Friday, May 10, the weather was warmer with less wind than on Wednesday. Twenty-three Graeagle Men’s Golf Association players competed in a two-man game in which, after each hole, the team must select which player’s net score to count toward the team score, plus “skins.” Each player’s net score was required to be counted on nine holes.
First place was won by Dan Anderson and Nate Coats with a net score of 62. (In addition, Coats had his first hole-in-one, in the same week he retired from the Sparks Police Department.) Second place was won by the team of Jeff Monaghan and Winston Giles with a net 65. Third place was won by Corey Fanti and Mike Quesenberry with a net 66.
In addition, there were seven “skins” awarded: Cory Fanti with a net 2 on the first hole, Nate Coats with a net 2 on the sixth hole; Dan Anderson with a net 3 on the seventh hole; Ron Eaton with a net 1 on the eighth hole; Bob Laxaque with a net 3 on the 15th hole; Nate Coats with a net 0 on the 16th hole; and Andy Knutsen with a net 2 on the 17th hole.
