May 15: Wednesday Play Day
The Graeagle Men’s Golf Association Play Day for Wednesday, May 15, saw clear warm weather with little or no wind. Nineteen players competed in two-man teams, with one player having a blind draw as his partner. The format was one best net ball counting on the front nine and both net balls counting on the back nine. First place was won by Anthony Miranda and Don Judson, with a net score of 100. Second place was won by Nate Coats and Lance Ragland, with a net score of 101. Third place was won by the team of Tony Gonzales and Andy Knudson, with a net score of 105.
There were six net “skins” awarded: two to Tony Gonzales with a 3 on the fifth hole and a 1 on the 16th hole; and one each to Jay Hendrick with a 1 on the third hole, Don Judson with a 1 on the 13th hole, Mike Quesenberry with a 2 on the 14th hole, and Joel Patterson with a 4 on the 18th hole.
May 16: Ace of Aces qualifier, Back Nine
On Thursday, May 16, a lovely spring day, Graeagle Meadows Women’s Golf Club players vied for the Ace of Aces qualifier, and also in a game of Back Nine. The club offers congratulations to Ace of Aces qualifiers Donna Ward, with a low gross score of 90, and Chris Spencer, with a net 79. The seasonal qualifiers complete in the season-ending Ace of Aces Playoff.
In Back Nine, only the scores on holes 10 through 18 (low gross and low net) count as the player’s game score. Winners were as follows:
- Flight 1 low gross: Donna Ward, with a 48.
- Flight 1 first low net, in a card-off: Renee Miller, net 43.
- Flight 1 second low net: Cindy Hannah, net 43.
- Flight 2 low gross: Lois Childress, 54.
- Flight 2 first low net: Nancy Linch, 42.
- Flight 2 second low net: Chris Spencer, 44.
Verna Constantine and Michele Violett each had one chip-in.
May 17: Friday Play Day
On Friday, May 17, the weather was warm with little wind. Twenty-two Graeagle Men’s Golf Association players competed in a game of individual low net, plus “skins.” The field was divided into low handicap in one flight and higher handicaps in a second flight. First place in the first flight was a tie between Gene Carr and Mark Yuill, both with net scores of 72. Third place in the first flight was won by Norm Miller with a net score of 73.
In the second flight the first-place winner was Andy Knudsen with a net 73. Second place was a tie among Mike Simpson, Bob Laxaque and Mike Irving, each with a net score of 74.
There were 3 “skins” awarded: one each to Lance Raglen with a net 2 on the ninth hole, Cory Fanti with a net 2 on the 13th hole, and Mike Simpson with a net 3 on the 17th hole.
