FRC Child Development Center hosts ‘Colorful Connections’

At the end of April, Feather River College’s adult education program, Go Teach, hosted “Colorful Connections” at the Child Development Center on campus. Artist Trixie Hollyhox, also known as Tina Thorman, led a group of Go Teach coaches, students and their families in creating a collaborative mural.

Hollyhox said she was inspired by organizers’ goal to connect everyone involved with the Go Teach program and to encourage participants to meet new people and connect with people they may not have seen in a while. This led to to Hollyhox’s plan for a collaborative mural for everyone and their families to work on together.

A collaborative mural project led by Trixie Hollyhox brings participants together.

In addition to creating the mural, attendees explored several art stations, including bubble painting, puff painting, pendulum painting, a “Go Teach!” banner, and a Zen doodle project.

The Go Teach program aims to help individuals enter the early childhood education workforce, retain their jobs through the challenging first year of employment, and work toward higher-level jobs with increased wages. The art event was planned by Go Teach event coordinator Casey Nunn, with support from Go Teach staff members Kinderlin Hoznour, Lindsey Kimzey and Shelley Miller. A picnic lunch was provided by Child Development Center lead cook Tristin Hoznour.

Organizers reported that participants remarked on the camaraderie and teamwork fostered by the event. “It was a lovely, leisurely day dedicated to celebrating connections through art,” they said.
