Manzanita store set to open in Lassen Volcanic National Park

Other amenities open; highway still closed through park

Lassen Volcanic National Park reports that the Manzanita Lake Camper Store, operated by authorized concessionaire ExplorUs, is scheduled to open June 1. Located at the entrance to the Manzanita Lake Campground in the northwest section of the park, the camper store offers ready-to-go meals and picnic supplies, such as hot and cold sandwiches, snacks, basic grocery items, hot and cold beverages, and ice cream. The camper store will be open from June 1 through mid-October.

Visitors are advised to prepare for the Memorial Day weekend by obtaining fuel, goods and services prior to arriving at Lassen Volcanic National Park. The nearby communities of Shingletown and Old Station, both roughly 20 minutes by car from the Manzanita Lake area, provide necessities and amenities for visitors looking to stock up to enjoy their recreation and exploration of the park.

From the northwest entrance of the park, visitors will be able to drive 10 miles on the park highway to the Devastated Area parking lot. From the southwest entrance of the park, visitors will be able to drive 1 mile to Sulphur Works. The rest of Highway 89 through the park remains closed due to snow as road crews continue plowing operations. Updates are available via the 2024 Road Clearing Operator Log.

Starting May 24, the historic Loomis Museum is open Fridays through Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There, visitors will be able to obtain information, learn about ranger programs, and view the park film. The Loomis Residence Store, an official nonprofit partner of Lassen Volcanic National Park, is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with hours increasing after Memorial Day weekend. The store has a wide range of books, maps, educational gifts, and other items for sale.

Ranger-led programs are offered starting May 24. Visitors are encouraged to check the park website and calendar for ranger programs or visit the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center or Loomis Museum for updates.
