Lost and Found Gravel Festival seeks race volunteers

Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship is seeking local volunteers to help with its Lost and Found Gravel Festival, taking place June 14 through 16 at Portola City Park.

Organizers report that the biggest need for volunteers is the day of the main bike race event, Saturday, June 15, when some 900 racers will embark on 35-, 60- or 100-mile rides, starting and ending at the park. Specifically, the festival is in need of course marshals to direct riders, as well as folks to staff aid stations set up around the courses. The complete list of volunteer posts can be found here, along with instructions on signing up.

A variety of volunteer posts is available for the 10th annual race event.

Lost and Found, now in its 10th year, is organized by Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship as one of its largest fundraisers of the year, with proceeds benefiting trail projects throughout the Lost Sierra. Proceeds support the work of SBTS trail crews, as well as SBTS’ current Connected Communities project, which aims to stimulate local economies through the creation of a 551-mile multiuse singletrack connecting 15 mountain towns, including Portola. “Volunteering is a great way to contribute to local trail development, and it’s fun!” say organizers.

In exchange for their time, volunteers get free camping in Portola, an event T-shirt and socks, as well as food and drink tickets. On-course volunteers, such as course marshals and folks at aid stations, receive a breakfast burrito, sack lunch, dinner meal ticket and two beverage tickets.

All volunteer-related questions can be directed to volunteer coordinator Anne Codding at [email protected].

Race spots are still open for those interested in participating in the event. Registration and more information on routes is available at lostandfoundbikeride.com.
