Robert (Bob) Baitinger

Oct. 10, 1937 – April 17, 2024

Robert (Bob) Baitinger passed away April 17, 2024, at Plumas District Hospital after a long battle with heart, lung and kidney failure.

Bob was born in Berkeley, California, on Oct. 10, 1937. He graduated from Alameda High School, where he was a member of ROTC. He went on to work for Pacific Motor Trucking in San Francisco, where he was a timekeeper. After a few years, he relocated to Valdez, Alaska, to work in construction after the 1964 earthquake.

During the summer of 1970, Bob met his future wife in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. They moved together to Castro Valley, California, where they raised a daughter, Gretchen. Bob loved being outdoors and had two very green thumbs. He kept ducks and gave the eggs away along with much of the bounty from his remarkable vegetable garden and fruit trees. When Bob wasn’t outside, he enjoyed watching almost any sport and especially liked the Oakland Raiders and A’s.

Bob was a truck driver carrying solvents and chemicals for 30 years. After his divorce, he retired and moved to Quincy, California, fulfilling a lifelong dream of living in a cabin in the mountains. He built a home next door to his brother, where he lived until his death. In Quincy, Bob’s love of sports continued as he became a great fan and follower of baseball and softball at Feather River College. He rarely missed a game. Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he has many mounted (stuffed) birds, ducks, elk, and deer.
