Fire Safe Council honors Ryan Tompkins

The Plumas County Fire Safe Council announces it has awarded a Certificate of Recognition for volunteer achievement and participation to Ryan Tompkins, who passed away May 6. Council Director Kathy Kogge shared the following statement:

“Ryan’s involvement and commitment to the Plumas County Fire Safe Council was truly paramount. The PCFSC board of directors and staff cannot express enough the depth of gratitude we have for the time and effort that Ryan dedicated to the organization. He was a pivotal member of our board of directors and spent countless hours furthering the mission of the fire safe council. Apart from being a board member, he also served as a mentor for many of the staff and is someone we all continue to look up to.

“Throughout his career he has made an immeasurable impact, particularly in Plumas County. His research efforts through the UC Cooperative Extension were focused on forest restoration and post-fire restoration. His research has helped to evolve best management practices and inspire natural resource professionals throughout the state of California. Ryan was also a dedicated member of his Firewise community and was spearheading an effort to create a nationwide reporting database for Firewise volunteer hours. All individuals, organizations and partners that were lucky enough to work with Ryan know that he was a catalyst for positive change and progress anywhere he went.

“Ryan’s professional expertise, expansive knowledge of forestry, and big heart made him the perfect person to ignite passion for the work that we do. Evidently, Ryan was fiercely devoted to his community and the fire safe council. His presence was able to subtly energize the folks he surrounded himself with and bring life into otherwise dull moments. The time that we have all had to work alongside Ryan was sincerely a gift. No written explanation of the impact Ryan has had on us will ever be enough to describe the amazing person he was.”
