Students explore butterweed and butterflies at Sierra Valley Preserve

Feather River Land Trust reports that students across the Feather River watershed are enjoying some sunshine out on protected lands.

Recently, 50 first graders from C. Roy Carmichael Elementary School in Portola ventured to the Sierra Valley Preserve. Guided by educator Rob Wade, they walked the Rebecca Wenk Botanical Trail to the historic Bulson House. Accompanied by butterweed and butterflies, it was a sunny spring day full of exploration and new discoveries, say organizers.

A collaboration between local schools and participating landowners, Learning Landscapes is FRLT’s K-12 outdoor education and stewardship program. Sierra Valley Preserve is one of 16 Learning Landscapes sites in the Feather River watershed — most are a short walk from the public schools in the region.

Organizers thank Wade, teachers and students for their energy and enthusiasm. For more information about Feather River Land Trust, visit https://www.frlt.org/.
